Auguste Joseph Paris (born November 12, 1826 in Saint-Omer , Pas-de-Calais department , † December 18, 1896 in Arras ) was a French politician of the Third Republic as well as an attorney and author of several historical works.

After studying law and obtaining a doctorate ( De la puissance paternelle ), Paris settled in Arras as a lawyer. He wrote biographies about Joseph Le Bon (1864), Ludwig XI. (1868) and Robespierre (1870) and was accepted into the Académie des arts et sciences of Arras. In 1871 Paris was elected to the National Assembly for the monarchists. After the attempt at a renewed restoration on the part of the monarchists had failed, Paris voted for the introduction of the septnate under Patrice de Mac-Mahon . In 1876 Paris ran for a seat in the Senate for Pas-de-Calais and was elected on January 30, 1876. In the Senate, he confirmed his support for Mac-Mahon and distinguished himself as an active member of the monarchists.

One day after May 16, 1877 , Paris was appointed Minister of Public Works in the Albert de Broglie cabinet. After the Republican victory in the National Assembly elections of October 1877, he resigned from office in November of that year and took up his post in the Senate, where he fought against educational reforms under the Jules Dufaures government . After he was unable to defend his seat in the elections to the Senate on January 6, 1882, Paris was re-elected to the Chamber on January 6, 1885, but, in contrast to his term of office from 1876 to 1882, attracted less attention there. He did not stand for re-election in 1891 and retired to Arras.
