Auguste Rateau
Auguste Camille Edmond Rateau (* 13. October 1863 in Royan ; † 13. January 1930 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French mining - and engineering - engineering . He became known for his significant further development of various turbo machines .
Live and act
After studying at the Polytechnic and the College of Mining in Paris , Rateau began his career as a teacher at the College of Mining in Saint-Étienne , where he worked from 1888 to 1897.
After this time as a professor, Rateau founded an engineering office in Paris, which dealt with the development of blowers for mining and metallurgy. Soon the product range was expanded and other turbo machines such as centrifugal pumps , steam turbines for steamships and turbochargers were also manufactured. Rateau developed a multistage impulse steam turbine , which is now also called the Rateau turbine . Finally, Rateau also developed a gas turbine with a turbo compressor .
For the manufacture and marketing of these products, Rateau founded his own company in 1903, the Société pour l'exploitation des appareils Rateau , which settled in La Courneuve in 1917 . This company was one of the nucleus of today's energy technology group Alstom .
In 1928 Rateau founded the French Standardization Society and later became its President.
Rateau was in command of the Legion of Honor and since 1918 a member of the French Academy of Sciences .
