Auguste de Châtillon
Auguste de Châtillon (born January 29, 1808 in Paris , † March 26, 1881 ibid) was a French sculptor, painter and writer.
In 1831, at the age of 23, Châtillon made his debut as a painter at the major exhibition in the Paris Salon . When he became aware of him there, the writer Gérard de Nerval commissioned him to decorate his apartment; The showpiece was the paneling of a large salon.
Between 1844 and 1851 Châtillon held in New Orleans ( Louisiana on). He then returned to France and settled again in Paris. From that time on, Châtillon devoted himself almost exclusively to literature. Through his friendship with Théophile Gautier , he also came into contact with many other Parnassians . With his anthology "Chant et poésie" Châtillon made a successful debut as a writer in 1855. Gautier wrote a commendable preface to it.
But neither in painting nor in literature could Châtillon repeat his initial successes. Impoverished and almost forgotten during his lifetime, Châtillon died in very poor circumstances eight weeks after his 73rd birthday in his apartment on Place Breda.
