Oliver Lustig
Oliver Lustig (born November 4, 1926 in Șoimeni , Cluj district ; † April 19, 2017 ) was a Jewish - Romanian journalist and author whose main subject was the Shoah . He survived the Auschwitz extermination camp and the subcamps of the Dachau concentration camp .
Life
Lustig was arrested on May 3, 1944, along with most of his family members, taken to the police station in Fodora and the Cluj assembly camp , and from there deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau on the fifth freight train from Cluj between June 6 and 9, 1944 . In September 1944, now separated from his family, he and his brother Emilian were transported to a subcamp of the Dachau concentration camp near Landsberg am Lech ( Kaufering 4 and 5 in Utting ) for forced labor . He received the prisoner no. 112,398. There he was liberated by the US Army on April 27, 1945.
In Romania he graduated from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj in 1949 . In 1974 he received his Ph.D. in economics. He worked for the Romanian military as a journalist and retired in 1986 as Major General of the Reserve.
