Augustin Abel Hector Léveillé (born March 13, 1863 in Le Mans ; † November 25, 1918 ) was a French missionary , botanist and founding member of the Académie internationale de Géographie Botanique . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is " H.Lév. "

Life

Hector Léveillé was born in Le Mans in 1863 . He studied medicine and was ordained a priest in 1887. He made trips abroad for the Society of the Paris Missionary Seminary , including to India in 1887. There he became a professor at the Collège de Pondichéry in Puducherry .

After returning to France in 1891, he founded the journal Le Monde des plantes and became a founding member of the Académie internationale de Géographie Botanique . In 1911 his well-known work Iconographie du Genre Epilobium appeared on the genus of the fireweed .
