Augustin Ramsperger
Augustin Ramsperger (born June 16, 1816 in Guntershausen near Aadorf , † November 14, 1880 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss lawyer and national councilor from the canton of Thurgau .
biography
Augustin Ramsperger, son of a cantonal councilor and chief judge of the same name, studied philosophy in Friborg from 1833–1834. 1835–1837 he studied law in Freiburg im Breisgau and Heidelberg . From 1843 he worked as a lawyer in Frauenfeld . From 1847 to 1869 he was a member of the Thurgau High Court, which he presided over from 1857. From 1840 to 1869 he was Thurgau's Grand Councilor . In the parliamentary elections in 1863 he was elected to the National Council, of which he was a member for the following six years. In 1868/69 he served as a cantonal constitutional councilor. After being voted out of Thurgau's cantonal and national council, Ramsperger worked as a lawyer and as a correspondent for conservative newspapers in Lucerne .
During his politically active time, Ramsperger became the leader of the Thurgau Catholics and a political opponent of Johann Konrad Kern . In 1841 he campaigned for the restoration of the monasteries in the canton of Aargau. In 1846 he legitimized the Catholic Sonderbund by referring to the free troop trains.
