Augustin Rigobella (also Rucubella, * in Monte Magrè in the Schio district , Vicenza province , Italy ; † April 27, 1613 in Kaisersteinbruch , then western Hungary , now Burgenland ) was an Italian master stonemason and sculptor of the Renaissance .

origin

Like the brothers Alexius and Elias Payos , Augustin Rigobello came from Valli del Pasubio near Monte Magre. An interesting story: there is a settlement there called Paiosa with a few inhabitants of the same name, and there was a quarry nearby.

The stonemasons often changed their whereabouts and stayed at their construction sites for a long time. If there was enough work there, they stayed forever. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Monte Magre was a linguistic island, a Tyrolean-Bavarian dialect was spoken , which is why stonemasons in German-speaking countries did not have to feel like a stranger.

This may also be the reason for the presence in the area of Kaisersteinbruch and Sommerein.

Life

From Monte Magre in the Schio district, three master stonemasons can be identified from the 2nd half of the 16th century in Kaisersteinbruch , the brothers Alexius and Elias Payos and Augustin Rigobello. They came from long-established families . These stonemasons often changed their whereabouts and stayed for a long time at their construction sites where there was enough work.

The stonemason Augustin Rigobello came to the country around 1570 with his compatriot Elias Payos and his wife. The stonemason then settled down at Rodaun . In the local quarry he became a master , he lived in the same house with Augustin Rigobello, a stonemason from his Italian hometown. He lived there for about twelve years, after which he moved to the imperial quarry near Winden am See . In this quarry, the venerable in God spiritual Lord Prelate von Heiligenkreuz was the landlord . The two master stonemasons Bartholomäus Pethan and Antonius Pozzo , their compatriots, also moved from the Rodaun quarry to the imperial quarry.

1592 letter to the Lower Austrian government

On February 17, 1592, the Italian master stonemason Rigobello addressed a submissive letter to the Lower Austrian government (abridged).

Your well-born , I, poor, deeply afflicted man, cannot avoid bothering Your Grace with this letter, out of great necessity ...
After Elias Payos was challenged by the temporary death of this valley of tears, and his housewife left with 4 children, three still young, the fourth married to Vinzenz Schmidl. Because this widow is a bit old and not eloquent in the German language , she has drawn up a contract with her Eidam ( son-in-law ) and handed over all the goods, houses, vineyards, but he is supposed to reclaim all credible debts and thus pay their debts from him Well. Several letters follow on this matter, on April 8, 1592, May 5, 1592, May 20, 1592, June 18, 1594 and June 21, 1594.

1603 Sale of the house

The house of the master stonemason Augustin Rigobello, including a garden in the lower quarry near the Markstein, is handed over to the stone crusher Peter Steiner.

Ulrich Payos , son of his deceased, once friends from his old homeland, Elias Payos , bought a house with a garden and a quarry together with his fellow master Giacomo Murato in 1603 . The property was then divided, ... as such, the quarry and garden, by your grace, Mr. Paulus abbots of the worthy house of God Heyligen Creuz, willingly left them to them . With him he lived the last years of his life.
