Elias Payos (also Paiosc, * in Monte Magre in the Schio district , Vicenza province , Italy ; † around 1590 in Kaisersteinbruch , then western Hungary , now Burgenland ) was an Italian master stonemason and sculptor of the Renaissance .

Brother of Alexius Payos . His father came from Valli del Pasubio near Monte Magre. An interesting story: there is a settlement there called Paiosa with a few inhabitants of the same name, and there was a quarry nearby.

Life

The stonemason Elias Payos came to the country with his landlady around 1570 and afterwards settled at Rodaun . In the local quarry he became a master , he lived in the same house with Augustin Rigobello , a stonemason from his Italian hometown. He lived there for about twelve years, after which he moved to the imperial quarry near Winden am See . In this quarry, the venerable in God spiritual Lord Prelate von Heiligenkreuz was the landlord .
