Augusto Theodoli

Augusto Theodoli (born September 18, 1819 in Rome , † June 26, 1892 there ) was an Italian cardinal .

Life

Theodoli was born in Rome on September 18, 1819, into a family of counts from which several cardinals had already emerged. Alberto Theodoli had already become cardinal in 1127 , Gregorio became cardinal in 1213 and the closest relative was Mario Theodoli (1643). Augusto's parents were Giacomo Theodoli and Maria Camassei. After a “stormy and gallant youth” he decided to embark on a church career. When he was ordained a priest is unknown. He became a canon of the chapter of St. Peter's Basilica and took over the management of the Dombauhütte of St. Peter . In 1856 he was relator of the Congregation Consulta and in 1866 took over responsibility for the celebrations of the 1,800th anniversary of the martyrdom of Peter . In 1882 he became papal majordomo and in the consistory of June 7, 1886 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. appointed cardinal deacon and received the title deaconry Santa Maria della Scala .

Augusto Theodoli died on June 26, 1892 and was buried in the Roman cemetery of Campo Verano .

What these two have in common is that they were cardinal deacons of San Teodoro; for Albert Theodoli appears only in a forgery, with Gregor not at all.
