Mario Theodoli

Mario Theodoli (* 1601 in Rome ; † June 27, 1650 there ) was an Italian cardinal .

Life

He was the son of Teodolo Theodoli, Marchese of San Vito, and his wife Flavia Fani. A later relative is Cardinal Augusto Theodoli . In his youth Mario Theodoli studied law in Rome and became a trainee lawyer at the courts of the Apostolic Signature . In January 1626 he was Abbreviator . On December 8 of the same year he was appointed governor of the city of Terni , from November 1627 to November 1628 he held the same office in Cesena , and from December 1628 to 1629 in Orvieto . After he had been governor again from June 1633 to June 1633 - this time in Viterbo  - he bought an office in the Apostolic Chamber in 1638, according to the customs of his time . In 1642 Mario Theodoli found himself as Apostolic Protonotary Participantium and Ordinary Judge at the Roman Curia ; in the same year he became an auditor of the Apostolic Chamber.

Pope Urban VIII created Mario Theodoli in the consistory of July 13, 1643 as a cardinal priest , and the Pope awarded him the cardinal's hat and the titular church of Sant'Alessio on August 31, 1643. As a cardinal, Mario Theodoli took part in the conclave of 1644 , in which Pope Innocent X . was chosen. Cardinal Theodoli became French Minister to the Holy See when Cardinal Alessandro Bichi was absent.

On October 17, 1644 Mario Theodoli was elected Bishop of Imola . He received his episcopal consecration on December 27, 1644, Cardinal Ciriaco Rocci , co-consecrators were Bishop Alfonso Gonzaga and Archbishop Giacomo Theodoli , Bishop of Forlì . On February 19, 1646, however, he resigned himself to the Diocese of Imola for health reasons. On January 28, 1649 he moved to the titular church of Santa Maria del Popolo .

Mario Theodoli died in Rome in the early evening of June 27, 1650 and was buried in his titular church, Santa Maria del Popolo .
