Terttu Aulikki Rautawaara [ ˈɑu̯likːi ˈrɑu̯tɑvɑːrɑ ] (born May 2, 1906 in Vaasa , † December 29, 1990 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Aulikki Rautawaara was born in the Gulf of Bothnia . After she had to give up her piano training due to a hand injury , she trained her voice with her father, a singing teacher in Helsinki, and in Berlin. She made her debut at the Helsinki Opera in 1932 . Numerous guest appearances followed at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera , the Salzburg Festival and the Wiener Festwochen , in Berlin, Munich and Amsterdam, often as an interpreter of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart . Rautawaara sang at the Royal Swedish Opera and has taken roles in operettas and music films. In Germany she played in the comedy Everything listens to my command in 1934 .

In the late 1940s she performed at the Edinburgh Festival and in Visby . At that time she had already established herself as an interpreter of Scandinavian songs ( Jean Sibelius and Ture Rangström ). After finishing her career as a singer, she was a singing teacher in Helsinki.

Aulikki Rautawaara was married to Reino Palmroth and from 1956 to 1958 with the Finnish composer Erik Bergman .
