history
Origin and Distribution
The authorship of the song is attributed to André Joubert du Collet. During the Dutch-French War (1672–1678) he served as a lieutenant in the French Navy , when he was captured by the Netherlands. In the course of this imprisonment, he is said to have written the text Auprès de ma blonde or Le Prisonnier de Hollande to a regional melody, the origin of which is believed to have originated at the beginning of the 16th century. Other representations also attribute the composition to Joubert. Two years later, after Louis XIV had paid a ransom demanded by the United Netherlands , Joubert was released from his captivity. Back in France, his work is said to have quickly enjoyed great popularity. The oldest known publication of the song dates back to 1704. Colonists also made it to North America ; there it is popular in Canada to this day. During various wars, such as the coalition wars or the First World War , Auprès de ma blonde was popular as a soldier's song .
