Austin Trout (born September 18, 1985 in Las Cruces , New Mexico ) is an American professional boxer and former WBA world light middleweight champion.

Boxing career

As an amateur boxer, he competed in 205 fights, of which he won 163. In 2004 he was American welterweight champion and came into the alternative selection for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , in which he ultimately did not participate. At the US Championships in 2005, he reached 3rd place in the welterweight division.

On September 16, 2005 he made his professional debut against Justo Almazán in Albuquerque and won by tKo in round 3. He was also able to decide his next seven fights early, including against the former Mid-American champion Raúl Muñoz. On December 21, 2007 he defeated the former, Mexican and Latino champions of the WBO, Erik Rafael Esquivel by unanimous points victory.

On March 14, 2009 in El Paso he secured the vacant "Continental Americas Title" of the WBA in the light middleweight division through tKo in round 2 against Martin Avila. On July 31 of the same year, he also managed a tKo victory in round 8 against the former interim world champion of the WBC, Marcos Primera. On September 5, he won by points victory against Nilson Julio Tapia, the "Fedelatin title" of the WBA in the light middleweight division.

On February 5, 2011 in Guadalajara he won the vacant WBA light middleweight world champion belt by unanimous victory over Rigoberto Álvarez (27-2) and defended the title on June 11 against North America champion David López (40-12). On November 11th he defended the title through tKo in round 6 against the Australian Frank LoPorto (15-4).

On June 2, 2012, he won his third title defense unanimously on points against Delvin Rodriguez (26-5). On December 1, 2012 he prevailed unanimously on points against Miguel Cotto (37-3). On April 20, 2013, he played a title association against WBC world champion Saúl Álvarez (41-0), but had to admit defeat to this on points.

When the fight for the WBA World Championship on December 7, 2013 in New York City , he was defeated on points against Erislandy Lara . In 2014 he defeated Daniel Dawson (40-3) and Luis Grajeda (18-3).

In May 2015 he defeated Luis Galarza (20-3) prematurely and four months later also Joey Hernandez (24-3) by knockout in the sixth round. He then boxed for the IBF world title in light middleweight in May 2016, but lost to title holder Jermall Charlo (23-0) on points. He lost another fight for the IBF World Championship in October 2017 against Jarrett Hurd (20-0).

In June 2018 he played a fight against Jermell Charlo (30-0), brother of Jermall Charlo, for the WBC light middleweight title and lost it after a majority decision (115-155; 115-111; 115-108). In May 2019 he boxed a draw against Terrell Gausha (21-1).

Austin Trout is engaged to Taylor Hardardt, who is also the coordinating assistant to his No Doubt Entertainment management. She also appeared in the reality TV series Say Yes to the Dress , in which she was looking for the right wedding outfit in New York.

On New Year's Eve 2013, Trout was arrested on suspicion of drunkenness in public and suspected involvement in a brawl in El Paso , but was released after two hours. The allegations could not be substantiated.
