The Austin Valley is a small and icy valley in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It lies on the east side of the Avalanche Ridge in the Jones Mountains .
The valley was mapped by a team from the University of Minnesota to explore the Jones Mountains between 1960 and 1961. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Jerry W. Austin, machinist of the United States Navy's VX-6 squadron and a crew member on the pioneer flight an LC-47 Dakota from Byrd Station to the Eights coast in November 1961 .
