Austranten (Norwegian for eastern edge ) is an isolated rocky outcrop in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . It rises on the eastern foothills of the Otto von Gruber Mountains in the Wohlthatmassiv 3 km southeast of the Todtriegel ridge .
The formation was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . A new mapping based on our own aerial photographs and measurements as well as the naming were carried out during the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960).
