A little more than 900 young footballers applied for the first season. From these applications, 12 candidates were allowed to move into the show's own villa and face the challenges of the trainers and jury. In the final, the remaining five finalists fought for victory. The jury consisted of the football legends Frenkie Schinkels and Toni Polster . Social and communicative skills, personality and charisma were also in demand. Neither the players themselves nor the audience were responsible for selecting and deselecting the participants. Only the jury decided. The sightings began in Kapfenberg on June 26th and continued in various regions of Austria before the final training sessions were held in Vienna and Salzburg. The candidates were filtered out by means of a standardized selection process with grades in different categories, according to Martin Daxl from Davitasports, who was responsible for the sport-technical processing.
The first season was won by Dominik Scherr. He got a professional contract with Bundesliga club Kapfenberger SV , but was never used. In summer 2011 he moved to the club's third team. A second season has not yet been commissioned.
The basic idea
The German company DavitaSports has set itself the goal of giving footballers the “2nd Chance to become a professional soccer player ”. The company sees the concept as a social responsibility towards young people who have left or have left the youth development program for private, professional or health reasons. This means that these talents are also disappearing from the focus of the Bundesliga clubs.
Concept in Germany
The German television broadcaster RTL Television also wants to adopt the format of Austria's New Footballstar, which Sylvie van der Vaart has planned as the presenter ; however, this has not yet been determined with certainty. The broadcast dates and the members of the jury have not yet been set either.
