Austria's Next Topmodel (abbreviated ANT or ANTM ) is the title of an Austrian casting show on the private broadcaster Puls 4 . The broadcast in Germany takes place on the private broadcaster Sixx . Franziska Knuppe has been moderating the show together with Sascha Lilic since the ninth season . The show is a glocalized adaptation of the American next top model concept.

concept

The aim of the casting show is to find Austria's next top model. At the end of each episode, the jury determines which models will be shown in the next show. The jury members are also the candidates' coaches and give them various tasks. Since the sixth season, men can also take part in the competition.

The idea of producing Austria's Next Topmodel came from the broadcasting family ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG , which owns Puls 4 and at the time had already broadcast three seasons of its counterpart Germany's Next Topmodel on ProSieben . Lena Gercke, presenter and jury member from seasons 1 to 4, was the winner of the first season of Germany's Next Topmodel .

Controversy surrounding the broadcast

Even before the start of the show, Dominik Wachta, founder of the nationwide model election of Austria's Next Top Model , which has been held annually since 2006, accused the transmitter Puls 4 of causing confusion with the almost identical name. Attempts to rename the show failed because the name was already licensed by the US television station CBS .

1st season

The first season ran from January 8th to February 5th, 2009. Initially, an episode was broadcast every Thursday, from the fourth episode onwards, the broadcasting cycle was changed to twice a week, Mondays and Thursdays. In addition to Gercke, the jury consisted of Andrea Weidler , owner of the model agency Wiener Models , and the Amsterdam- based choreographer Alamande Belfor . The jury was supported by make-up artists Boris Entrup and Sabine Landl during the broadcast . The winner Larissa Marolt received a modeling contract with Wiener Models , was featured on the cover of Miss magazine and was able to join Germany's Next Topmodel as one of the top 20 finalists.

Participants

From a total of 3500 applicants, 100 were invited in the first episode and had to present themselves to the jury individually. 30 of them made it through initially. After three runs with different items of clothing and a photo, the jury reduced the field of participants to 10 candidates. They had to prove their talent in various “challenges” during the season. A decision was made in each episode, and one candidate was usually eliminated.

resonance

The first show had 213,000 viewers (market share 13.1% between the ages of 12 and 49) and was thus above the number of viewers of the first season of Germany's Next Topmodel, which was broadcast in Austria on ProSieben Austria . The second episode sank to 168,000 viewers (12.4%), but was the most watched program on the main evening program of Austrian private television that day.

The model flat share

In order to prolong the success of Austria's Next Top Model , Die Model WG was conceived, in which six of the retired candidates competed for further orders and an apartment in New York under the guidance of Andrea Weidler. The program was broadcast on Puls 4 between May and July 2009. The winner was Kordula.

2nd season

The second season “Austria's Next Top Model” was broadcast from November 25, 2009. An Austria-wide casting was carried out from the beginning of August to the beginning of September 2009 in various shopping centers.

In 2010 the format changed to Thursday. The jury again consisted of Lena Gercke, Andrea Weidler and Sabine Landl, new photographer Andreas Ortner.

In the first episode, 300 applicants were invited to Schloss Hof . As part of a record attempt at the longest catwalk in the world, 20 candidates were selected by the jury. After an initial photo shoot, the field was reduced to 13 candidates. The participants moved into an apartment in Vienna's Millennium Tower and traveled to various castings and tasks for the jury. Destinations included London , Paris and Cape Town .

Aylin Kösetürk from Vienna won the final on February 4, 2010.

3rd season

From January 6, 2011, the third season of the show was broadcast. In addition to Lena Gercke, the jury included catwalk trainer Elvyra Geyer and fashion designer Atil Kutoğlu . In the course of this season, a candidate had to leave the show because of racist statements.

The media preparation was also criticized by various media to the effect that this statement made in a private telephone call outside of the actual show was broadcast by the transmitter Puls 4 and used several times to advertise the program. The allegation is that the broadcaster and those responsible for the show, by terminating the candidate's participation, ostensibly distanced themselves from racist and discriminatory content, but with the broadcast of the incriminated statement they themselves staged a racism scandal in order to increase the audience, i.e. . H. instrumentalized the alleged racism for commercial purposes.

The winner on February 27, 2011 was Lydia Obute from Baden.

On average, 12.0 percent of 12-49 year olds (203,000 viewers) watched the program, with peaks of up to 16.3 percent.

The judging team consists of Lena Gercke, Atil Kutoglu and Elvyra Geyer. A changing guest juror also takes part in the program. Based on the name of the station Puls 4, the program is marketed as Austria's Next Topmodel 4 and, because of this 4, presented as an anniversary edition. To mark this “anniversary”, Bianca Schwarzjirg regularly publishes blog entries on the Puls 4 website. This blog is called Model Gossip . The motto of this season is Welcome to High Fashion . The first episode started with 22 candidates, 16 of whom moved into the model loft after running at Vienna Fashion Week . Shortly after the broadcast of the episode in which Sabrina Rauch dropped out and thus took 13th place, she was the victim of a serious traffic accident in Graz.
