Papis Loveday (born January 3, 1977 in Dakar ; real name Pape Badji ) is an international top model and an entrepreneur of Senegalese origin. He lives in Italy and Germany . He became known, among other things, through the campaign for United Colors of Benetton and television broadcasts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He was described as the most famous male, colored top model in the world in 2014.

Life

Papis Loveday was born in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. His mother was a diplomat , his father a doctor . Loveday has six siblings and 19 half-siblings. In Dakar he attended a private school with a high school diploma. As a teenager he pursued a career as a professional athlete - especially over the 400 meter distance he was convincing. Due to a state sports scholarship, he moved to Paris , where he began the study of computer science .

During the preparations for the World Athletics Championships, Loveday was discovered by a sports photographer . His modeling career began in 2003. He signed a contract with Riccardo Gay agency in Milan . A few weeks later, the fashion company United Colors of Benetton booked him for a global advertising campaign . He was photographed for this campaign by star photographer Oliviero Toscani . A campaign for debut with supermodel Natasha Poly followed shortly thereafter . Further contracts with the agencies Major Model Management in Paris , DNA Model Management in New York , AMCK Models in London and Louisa Models in Munich followed. From 2005 to 2008 Loveday was considered the most booked colored model in the world. He worked for the fashion houses Dior Homme , Valentino , Armani and Vivienne Westwood , among others . On the catwalks of the fashion weeks in Milan and Paris, he worked for companies such as Lanvin , Thierry Mugler , Givenchy , Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent . He worked for the John Galliano brand for many years.

In 2009 he moved to the Milan agency Joy Model Management. The worldwide campaign by the fashion company Etro from 2009 also caused a stir . Loveday was featured on numerous covers of various fashion magazines, including magazines such as Ibiza Style Magazine, Untitled magazine, UP-the papercut magazine, Hype magazine, Posh magazine and The trend Issue. In addition, Loveday was featured on numerous fashion series in magazines such as Gentlemen's Quarterly , Vogue homme, BMM magazine, Cosmopolitain and Collecioni.

Because of its eccentric appearance, Loveday became the subject of tabloid media coverage . The features section dedicated articles to him. Loveday can be seen on television as a guest juror and expert in programs such as Austria's Next Topmodel , Die Model-WG or Germany's Next Topmodel .

In 2011 Loveday and a business partner founded the company "baobab holding GmbH" based in Munich. It holds the worldwide registered trademark and license rights to the name "Papis Loveday" as well as "Loveday Jeans" and "Champagne Papis". The champagne brand Champagne Papi was launched in late 2012. When the license was granted to “Ben and GmbH” based in Düsseldorf , the denim brand Loveday Jeans was created. This is developed by former Diesel designers according to Papis Loveday's specifications and manufactured exclusively in Italy.

In 2012 a police search was carried out at his closed event "Papis Loveday's Stammtisch" in Munich's Nobel Club Hanoi. 1.2 grams of cocaine were seized from Loveday . A preliminary investigation was initiated against Loveday , which was discontinued in return for payment of € 12,000.

2014 he hosted next to the Austrian top model Melanie Scheriau the show Austria's Next Top Model . Due to the positive ratings development, the private broadcaster PULS 4 (ProSiebenSat1 Medien Gruppe) engaged Papis Loveday for the 2015/2016 season of Austria's Next Topmodel.

In December 2015 and January 2016, Papis Loveday hosted his first own TV show on German-speaking television. The four episodes of the 90-minute show were produced in Hong Kong and broadcast on the Austrian private broadcaster Puls4. The program showed in a documentary way how Papis Loveday accompanies six prospective models as a mentor during the real model day. Similar to the well-known top model formats, Papis Loveday excluded one model from the show in each episode, but with sole decision-making power. In 2016, he gave an insight into his biography in a highly regarded press interview.

2018 he served in the 13th season of ProSieben telecast Germany's Next Top Model as a catwalk coach. Also in 2018, Papis Loveday can be seen as a jury member for the first season of Switzerland's Next Top Model at Pro Sieben Schweiz.

In 2019, Loveday expanded its TV presence and, in addition to the programs Austria's Next Topmodel (transmitter Puls 4 ) and Switzerland's next Topmodel (transmitter ProSieben ), was also in formats such as Promi Shopping Queen (transmitter VOX ) and with TV icon Verona Pooth on About You - Watch the Fashion Duel (ProSieben broadcaster).

As part of the worldwide demonstrations against racism and xenophobia , triggered by the murder of George Floyd by police violence, Papis Loveday spoke to more than 25,000 people at the rally on Königsplatz (Munich) in 2020 . His speech generated a lot of media coverage.

Papis Loveday owns apartments in Munich and Milan as well as a summer house in Ibiza . According to an interview in the Süddeutsche Zeitung at the end of 2012, he supports his mother financially in Senegal.

Since the end of 2010, Papis Loveday has been one of the sponsors of the UNESCO Foundation - Education for Children in Need . He is primarily involved in projects in his home country Senegal.
