The Avic AG600 is an amphibious aircraft produced by the Chinese manufacturer China Aviation Industry General Aircraft (CAIGA), a company of the AVIC Group. It is equipped with four turboprop engines and designed for civil and military use. Until 2014, the AG600 was called JL600 Jiaolong .

history

The Jingmen- based Special Vehicle Design Institute (Institute 605) is responsible for the construction of the AG600 . The wings as well as the nose and middle sections of the fuselage are manufactured in Xi'an ; the rear fuselage section and the tail unit are built in Hanzhong . The final assembly of the components is carried out by the Zhuhai Yanzhou Aircraft Corporation, which belongs to CAIGA .

The planned areas of application for this amphibious aircraft are rescue missions at sea, extinguishing missions in forest fires and various military tasks. When fighting a fire, it is able to throw off 12 tons of water within 20 seconds.

To start on the water, a 1800 m long, 200 m wide and 2.5 m deep water surface is required. A 1500 m long and 35 m wide runway is sufficient on land. The AG600 has a retractable undercarriage for this purpose. The main landing gear wheels are pulled back into the hull, the nose wheel into the lower hull. At the ends of the wings there are support floats that stabilize the aircraft on the water. The WJ-6 engines are licensed by the China National South Aviation Industry Company in Zhuzhou produced Ivchenko AI-20 .

The AG600 was presented to the public during the roll-out in Zhuhai on July 23, 2016. AVIC announced at the same time that it saw a market potential of 50 to 60 aircraft for China and another 80 for export. 17 firm orders have already been received. The maiden flight on land took place on December 24, 2017 and on water on October 20, 2018.
