Awksenti Antonos dse Zagareli ( Georgian ავქსენტი ანტონის ძე ცაგარელი ; * February 9th July / February 21st  1857 greg. In Digomi near Mtskheta ; † August 12th July / August 25th  1902 greg. In Tbilisi ) was a Georgian actor and Dramaturge .

Life

Zagareli attended a seminary school . Even as a child he was enthusiastic about the theater .

Zagareli worked as an actor from 1878 to 1883. In 1878 Zagareli's first play Now Are Other Times , performed in 1879 and well received by the public and the press. Zagareli's talent and humor were even more evident in the following pieces, such as Chanum (or Chanuma , performed in 1882 and translated into Russian and Armenian ), Maiko , Zimbireli (1886), Swacha and Baikush . Because of his knowledge of Georgian- Armenian life, he portrayed people from the simple Tiflis people realistically. He also translated around 20 plays for the Georgian theater, including plays by Alexander Ostrowski .

For a living, Zagareli had to work as a station master at the Transcaucasian Railway (until 1899). He spent the last two years of his life in Tbilisi, where he participated in Georgian magazines and published memories of theater life. His work was recognized by Ilia Chavchavadze and Alexander Ostrowski. He was married to the actress Nato Merabowna Gabunija (1859-1910).

Zagareli's comedy Chanuma is still being played. In 1919 Wiktor Dolidse used them for the libretto for his opera Keto und Kote . In 1927 the comedy served as a template for a silent film by Alexandre Zuzunawa and in 1978 for a Soviet television film by Georgi Towstonogow .
