Axel Friedrich

Axel Friedrich (born November 23, 1947 ) is a German chemist and environmental expert. He was department head for the areas of traffic and noise in the German Federal Environment Agency and co-founded the International Council on Clean Transportation . The doctor of chemistry became known to a broader public through the emissions scandal in September 2015.

In 2016 he worked as an expert for Deutsche Umwelthilfe . Ten years earlier he had already warned “the Federal Environment Ministry of the impending disaster”. However, the then Federal Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel made him responsible for this same disaster, so that Friedrich was released from his previous duties in 2007.

In a 2018 interview, Axel Friedrich u. a. propose to retrofit petrol engines with petrol particulate filters . Many diesel vehicles would not be covered by the new driving bans. He supports the idea of ​​a blue sticker and would welcome a fund if the fine of 5,000 euros for each “tricky diesel” quantified by Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer were to be legally enforced.
