Axel Kober

Axel Kober (born February 10, 1970 in Kronach ) is a German conductor and since 2009/10 General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein .

Life

Axel Kober studied at the University of Music in Würzburg .

In 1994 he followed a first engagement at the State Theater Schwerin . In 1998 he went to the Dortmund Theater , where he became first conductor and deputy GMD . In 2003 he moved to the Nationaltheater Mannheim . There he was appointed deputy GMD in 2005/06 and the acting GMD the following year. In 2007, Axel Kober took over the musical direction of the Leipzig Opera as music director together with Riccardo Chailly . Axel Kober has been General Music Director of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf / Duisburg, since the 2009/2010 season.

Guest performances have taken him to the Royal Copenhagen Opera , the Vienna Volksoper and the Basel Theater . He was invited to the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg and to the State Opera . In 2009 he made his debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

Axel Kober conducted at the Bayreuth Festival in 2014, at the opening and then five more times, Wagner's Tannhäuser Opera and in 2015 the Flying Dutchman .
