Axel Meyer (born January 14, 1955 in Hanover ) is a German non-fiction author , inventor and perfumer . He is considered one of the pioneers in natural food nutrition in Germany.

life and career

As a student in the 1970s , Meyer began to bake bread and cakes made from whole grain in some of the first natural food stores in Braunschweig and Hanover . Because customers kept asking him about the recipes, he wrote a baking book. The Art of Baking appeared in 1979, initially handwritten and self-published ; it is considered the first German-language wholemeal baking book. 300,000 copies had been sold by 2016. 1990 and 1992 published with meat adé! and why no meat? more works on food . In 1991 he published a small encyclopedia of fragrances and founded the Taoasis GmbH Natur Duft Manufaktur , which produces natural fragrances for aromatherapy .

Pilot project "Nice school"

In 2005 Meyer developed the first learning fragrance , Dufte Schule , which was used in a pilot project in 30 schools in Germany for a controlled classroom fragrance in order to investigate the effects on the learning behavior of around 1000 pupils. The chemist Dietrich Wabner was there to advise him on the composition. Meyer and the co-author of the study, Joseph Stephan Jellinek , came to the conclusion that natural scents can improve motivation to learn . The results were published in 2010 in the journal "International Journal of Clinical Aromatherapy" and the book "Scented School: Easier Learning with Scented Essences".
