Axel Priebs

Axel Priebs (* 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German administrative expert and scientist. From 2001 to March 2018 he was responsible Councilor for the Environment, Planning and Construction of the Hanover region and also from 2002, the first Regional Council of the Hanover region. Axel Priebs is honorary professor at the Universities of Kiel and Hanover and has been a university professor at the University of Vienna since 2018.

Life

Axel Priebs studied geography , sociology and administrative and spatial planning law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel from 1977 to 1983 . In 1983 he completed his studies with a diploma, after which he worked as a research assistant at the Geographical Institute of the University of Kiel. In 1984 he became a regional planner for the district of Verden . In 1986 he became a research associate at the Flensburg University of Education . In 1989 he did his doctorate at the University of Kiel with the thesis on village-related politics and planning in Denmark under changing social framework conditions , until 1990 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Kiel. From 1990 to 1991 he was a DFG fellow at the University of Copenhagen . In 1991 he became head of the regional planning and regional planning department at the Senator for Environmental Protection and Urban Development of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and was a member of the main committee of the Ministerial Conference for Regional Planning . In 1994 Priebs moved to Berlin, where he was the Berlin head of the joint office of the joint regional planning Berlin / Brandenburg until 1995. From 1996 to 2001 he was head of the planning and recreation department at the municipal association for the greater Hanover area . From 2001 to March 2018 he was the department head for environment, planning and construction of the Hanover region and from 2002 1st regional council of the Hanover region and general representative of the regional president.

Axel Priebs has been an honorary professor at the University of Kiel since 1998.

After completing his tenure as head of the Hanover region, Priebs moved to the University of Vienna as a full-time professor on April 1, 2018 .

He is a member of the Advisory Council for Spatial Development at the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Academy for Spatial Research and Regional Planning and was its vice-president from 2001 to 2002. He is also a member of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning .

In the state elections in Lower Saxony in 2013 he was election officer for the Hanover region without the state capital Hanover. He had the same task in the 2013 federal election .
