Axel Peter Schuster (born February 26, 1972 in Cologne ) is a German football official .

Life

After high school studied Schuster at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz jurisprudence . In addition to his studies, he began to work first as a youth coach and later as youth manager at 1. FSV Mainz 05 .

At the beginning of December 1999, Schuster took on his first tasks in the area of ​​the 1st team of 1. FSV Mainz 05 and was finally installed on January 1st, 2000 by Christian Heidel as his deputy and team manager. In the following years his area of ​​responsibility was expanded and he acted as the head of the licensed players department and was the managing director of the club's REHA GmbH . During Schuster's tenure, the club changed from a relegation candidate in the 2nd Bundesliga to an established Bundesliga club . The trainers Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel , with whom Schuster worked closely during this time, played a major role in this.

FC Schalke 04

On June 1, 2016, Axel Schuster moved to FC Schalke 04 and took over the post of sports director.
