Azem Vllasi

Azem Vllasi (* 1948 in Rubovce near Kosovska Kamenica , SFR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ) is a Kosovar politician and lawyer of Albanian nationality. He is an advisor to the Kosovar government on foreign policy issues.

Life

From 1986 to 1988 Vllasi was chairman of the Association of Communists of Kosovo . He was removed from office in May 1988 after resisting the takeover of power by the Serbian government under Slobodan Milošević in the wake of the anti-bureaucratic revolution . His successor was Kaqusha Jashari , who was replaced after a short time by the police chief Rahman Morina, who was considered loyal.

In connection with the ongoing unrest, Vllasi was arrested in March 1989. After his acquittal in April 1990, he settled as a lawyer in Pristina.

Since 2004, Vllasi has been a member of the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo , which is now led by Agim Çeku . However, he does not occupy an official position in the party.

On March 13, 2017, Vllasi was injured with a gunshot wound by an attacker.
