Bálint Alsáni

Bálint Alsáni , also Valentin d'Alsan or Valentino de Alsan (* around 1330 in Alsán , † November 19, 1408 in Pécs ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of the governor of Mačva ( Macsói in Hungarian ), Janos Alsáni , located in Serbia today . Bálint Alsáni studied in France and Italy and received his doctorate iuris utriusque . Then he became a professor in Esztergom . From 1352 (or 1353) until he was elected bishop he was a canon in Pécs, Veszprém and Esztergom.

Alsáni was elected Bishop of Pécs on July 21, 1374 . His episcopal ordination took place before October 25, 1374. In 1373 (or 1376) he was Vice Chancellor of King Lajos I of Hungary ; In 1381 he found himself as the Hungarian ambassador to Italy (Padua, Venice and Rome). Pope Urban VI. appointed him in the consistory of December 17, 1384 cardinal priest . On February 9, 1385, he was given Santa Sabina as the titular church , where he continued to hold the bishopric of Pécs. At the 1389 conclave , Pope Boniface IX. chose, he did not participate. He was a cardinal proto-priest from 1397 or 1398 until his death . At the conclaves of 1404 and 1406 , at which Innocent VII and Gregory XII. were elected, he was also not involved. On August 22, 1407 he reached the papal court in Viterbo, but had to return to Hungary from Siena via Venice due to illness.

He died in November of the following year and was buried in Pécs.
