Bárbara Hechavarría
Bárbara Hechavarría ( Bárbara Hechavarría Aponte; born August 6, 1966 in Holguín ) is a former Cuban discus thrower .
At the Ibero-American Championships in 1986 she won bronze.
In 1987 she won the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships, the Ibero-American Championships in 1988 and the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1990 .
In 1991 she won the Pan American Games in Havana and was twelfth at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo .
The following year she won silver at the Ibero-American Championships and was eliminated from qualifying at the Olympic Games in Barcelona .
In 1993 she was sixth at the World Championships in Stuttgart and defended her title at the Central America and Caribbean Games, in 1994 she won the Goodwill Games and was fourth at the World Cup in Athletics in London .
In 1995 a silver medal at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata was followed by a tenth place at the World Championships in Gothenburg . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she failed again in the preliminary round.
In 1997 she won the Central American and Caribbean Championships and in 1998 for the third time in a row at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
She set her personal best of 68.18 m on February 17, 1989 in Havana .
