The Bäckerbichl is a protected natural monument and geotope in the Erling district of the Andechs community in the Starnberg district . Further protection is granted to its location in the conservation area "Western part of the district of Starnberg" and the FFH area "moraine between Ammersee and Lake Starnberg."

history

The Bäckerbichl was raised to the protection status of a natural monument by the Starnberg District Office on August 9, 1979 in order to preserve the appearance of the moraine dome and to protect the rare flora . At that time, the hill was owned by the Erlingen baker family, from which it gets its colloquial name. Around 2000 it was acquired by the Starnberg district.

Geography and geology

The landscape around Andechs is a relic of the last ice age . The Isar-Loisach glacier covered large parts of the Alpine foothills and in places left the rock debris contained in the ice as relatively steep hills when it melted . The shape of these elevations often resembles an artificially created burial mound and was therefore given the name tumulus by geologists in Bavaria .

The Bäckerbichl is such a tumulus. It lies at an altitude of 726  m above sea level. NN in the Isar-Loisach-Jungmoränenregion and covers an area of 8000 square meters.

Flora and fauna

Cow bells on the Bäckerbichl

The Bäckerbichl is part of the “ Mesnerbichl - Seachtn -Bäckerbichl” biotope complex . Since the soil with the angular gravel of the moraine gravel reaching to the surface could never be cultivated profitably, a natural habitat was preserved on the hill, which is surrounded by agricultural areas, for plants that have now become rare. The existing species-rich grassland vegetation is considered to be particularly valuable.

Blooming pasque flowers bathe the hallway in a violet color bath early in spring. Of the plants to be especially mentioned, the real Alpine gentian bloom a little later in the year and the silver thistle in midsummer . The abundance of flowers attracts a large number of insects such as bees, butterflies or beetles, which pollinate the plants while searching for food and thus make an important contribution to the preservation of the natural vegetation on the Bäckerbichl.
