former function: Kunstgraben

The Bärlochsgraben is a now dry and only partially preserved artificial ditch in Straßberg and part of the Lower Harz pond and ditch system in the Harz mining region . It was built at the beginning of the 18th century.

course

A trench keeper's house - the trench keeper's responsibility included ensuring the function and maintenance of the water-technical systems in the entire Glasebachtal - was inserted in the hewn rocks at the Bärenloch (Bärlochsfelsen). This is where the Glasebach return ditch flows , which carried water away from the wheel chamber of the Glasebach pit . The Bärlochsgraben begins directly as a connection.

Initially, the ditch went largely straight down the mountain with a steep gradient , only to bend in the direction of Grundborn shortly before today's Mühlenweg (connection to Silberhütte ), a little south of the Bärlochsmühle . The ditch now largely followed the contour line and ended at an artificial shaft in Straßberg .

Current condition

The trench is completely dry. A small rest area has been created near the former trench keeper's house. The trench is filled here and is used as a hiking trail from Straßberg to the Glasebach pit. In the area of the slope, the ditch is still there, the path at the ditch is part of the aforementioned hiking trail. After the bend at Grundborn, the old ditch, interrupted by paths, can still be seen in the area for a while. The place of the former end is no longer fully understandable today.
