Bård Breivik
Bård Breivik (born November 23, 1948 in Bergen , † January 10, 2016 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian sculptor . In 1971 he co-founded the artist group LYN.
Life
He was the son of the graphic artist and painter Thomas Breivik (1923-1999) and his first wife Sissel Søyland (* 1927). From 1967 to 1969 Bård Breivik attended the ceramics department of the Bergen School of Arts and Crafts and then the local Vestlandets Art Academy, where he was a student of the sculptor Hugo Watne . From 1970 to 1971 he studied at the St. Martin School of Art in London with Anthony Caro . At this time he began to turn to conceptual art , influenced, among other things, by his contacts with English and American artists. In 1971 he and other artists founded the group LYN, of which he belonged until 1981. Another member of the artist group was Gerhard Stoltz, with whom Breivik created several installations. In 1974 he had his first solo exhibition at Galleri 1 in Bergen. In the same year he took on a teaching position at the Western Norwegian Art Academy in Bergen, which he held until 1979. From 1982 to 1985 he was a professor at the Art Academy in Stockholm . In the 1980s, Breivik's artistic work increasingly focused on cultural traditions such as wooden boat building or quarry stone architecture. His object art combines simplicity with technical precision, the past with high technology. Breivik often worked with industrial companies.
