Béla Balás

Béla Balás (born March 25, 1941 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Kaposvár .

Life

After graduating from high school, Béla Balás studied Catholic theology at the Piarist Gymnasium in Budapest and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Esztergom on June 20, 1965 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Feradi Maius and auxiliary bishop in Veszprém on August 10, 1992 . The Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, Cardinal László Paskai , donated him episcopal ordination on October 17th of the same year; Co -consecrators were Bishop József Szendi of Veszprém and Bishop Endre Gyulay of Szeged-Csanád .

On May 31, 1993, Béla Balás was appointed the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Kaposvár.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 25, 2017.
