Béla Sipos (born April 7, 1945 in Sopron ) is a Hungarian economist , statistician and emeritus university professor .

Career

Sipos is the son of Béla Sipos sen. and Dóra Szakács and has two sisters. In 1944 the family moved from Transylvania to Hungary , where Sipos grew up in Budapest . In 1967 he graduated from Karl Marx University with a degree in economics . From 1967 to 1968 he was a trainee economist at the Hungarian Optical Works in Budapest.

His research area has been prognostics since 1968 . From 1968 to 1970 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Industrial Business Organization and Computer Science (Department for Industrial Business Organization) at Karl Marx University. In 1971 he was a lecturer in the external department of the Karl Marx University in Pécs (department head Zoltán Komjáti).

In 1975 he worked as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Pécs . In 1981 he was a lecturer in the Faculty of Economics at this university . He graduated as a candidate in economics from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) in 1980 and received his doctorate in economics in 1988 ( econometrics )

In 1989 he was university professor at the Faculty of Economics at Janus Pannonius University and from 1997 to 2007 Prorector of the University of Pécs. His teaching activities focused on a. Business organization and planning, business forecasting and planning, econometrics and forecasting .

He is the author of numerous scientific publications, has lectured at numerous international conferences and has made study visits to 22 countries. For example, between 1991 and 1996 he worked for six months as a British Council Fellow at Middlesex Business School in London.

Sipos is married to the statistician Katalin Rédey. The couple have two sons.
