The Bømlafjord ( Norwegian : Bømlafjorden ) is a fjord at the southwestern end of the Norwegian province of Vestland . It forms the westernmost part of the Hardangerfjord .

The Bømlofjord stretches from the lighthouse Ryvarden fyr on the Ryvardsneset peninsula in a north-easterly direction and ends after about 28 kilometers in the Klosterfjord off the island of Halsnøy , where it meets the Langenuen , Ålfjord and Bjoafjord , and is now called Hardangerfjord. On its north side are the islands of Bømlo and Stord , in the south the municipality of Sveio .

A 20-minute ferry connection links the towns of Buavåg in Sveio with Langevåg on Bømlo at the far end of the fjord. Further east, the Bømlafjord tunnel connects Valestrand on Sveio with the island of Føyno, which belongs to Stord, and from there over bridges to Stord and Bømlo. The tunnel is part of the Trekantsambandet belonging to European route 39 . The main port and largest town along the fjord is Leirvik on Stord. There is also the Kværner shipyard Stord, which mainly parts of drilling rigs produced.
