The Bürgenstock is a catamaran - ferry with hybrid drive on the Lake Lucerne . It has been running all year round for the Lake Lucerne Shipping Company (SGV) between Lucerne and the Kehrsiten - Bürgenstock station as a feeder to the Bürgenstock Railway since May 2018 .
General
The ship, which cost 6 million Swiss francs , was commissioned in 2016 from Shiptec, a subsidiary of SGV, assembled here and delivered in May 2018.
Construction of the ferry
Aluship Technology from Gdansk designed and built the aluminum structure for the Bürgenstock ferry, a passenger catamaran with two decks for 300 people, in Gdansk. The manufactured components were transported to Switzerland to the Swiss shipyard Shiptec AG in Lucerne and assembled here.
It is one and it can transport you at a speed of up to 35 km / h.
The hybrid drive of the 38 m long, 10.3 m wide and 111 ton heavy Bürgenstock consists of two electric propeller motors from Siemens with a nominal output of 180 kW each. They give the catamaran a speed of around 35 km / h. The batteries are of two Scania - diesel generators loaded type DI16, each with 552 kW rated power. The eight-cylinder engines are equipped with an SCR system to reduce the nitrogen oxide content in the exhaust gases.
The Bürgenstock runs its route 365 days a year, 17 times a day. The crossing takes around 24 minutes and is carried out in two modes:
- In the Lucerne lake basin, it drives purely electrically for about 12 minutes, while the batteries feed the electric drive motors.
- The second half of the route is diesel-electric , the drive motors are fed by the diesel generators and the batteries are recharged.
The modular design of the Bürgenstock enables the individual modules to be transported by road. This enables this type of ship to be transported to suitable locations and reassembled there.
