The Bürgerblick Passau is a local magazine from the Lower Bavarian city of Passau that has been published by Hubert J. Denk since October 14, 2005 . In addition to the publisher, a media designer and several freelance authors work for the local magazine.

history

Hubert J. Denk was editor-in-chief of the advertising paper “Am Sonntag”, which he co-founded in 2000. After just under a year, he was given notice of termination without notice. The dismissal without notice and the reasons given did not hold up before the labor court. The publishers had to compensate the plaintiff generously. Then he started working as a freelance journalist. The news agency Mediendenk developed from this activity in 2001. The controversial debates about the construction of the "ECE" shopping center in the Neue Mitte Passau led to the establishment of Bürgerblick in October 2005, which was critical of this project. Denk wanted to offer a magazine as an alternative to the local media companies. Your title should be the program. The subtitle is "Read what moves the city".

The reporting was initially directed against the then CSU city government. After a few issues, this moved to several court cases in February 2006, replies and settlements followed. Since the spring of 2008, the range of topics has broadened, while reporting on the city of Passau remained central. The Bürgerblick has been appearing with an editorial since December 2008 .

In the course of legal disputes with Florian Silbereisen and Bernd Schottdorf , which ended with an injunction against Bürgerblick, court costs were incurred that led to an increased sales price for the February 2010 edition. Hubert Denk resisted these injunctions and won in the main proceedings or the higher courts.

At the end of 2013, the magazine became known to a broad public through a legal dispute that had been going on for over four years in the case of laboratory doctor Bernd Schottdorf . Denk reported on donations from Schottdorf to the then Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber . Schottdorf saw in it the charge that he wanted to influence investigations against him. Denk was able to fend off these injunctive relief actions in all instances. After these legal proceedings, the public prosecutor's office investigated the journalist, as they suspected that he had bribed an official of the investigative or judicial authorities or intercepted the e-mail traffic between Schottdorf and his lawyers. Denk described these allegations as absurd and refused to name his source, citing the protection of informants .

Frequency of publication

The Bürgerblick first appeared until October 2007, partly because of the legal disputes, with an irregular length of 8 pages. Currently (2015) it appears with 10 issues per year with currently around 60 pages per issue. The Bürgerblick appears in the first week of every month, except in January and August.

sale

The initial circulation of 15,000 copies was distributed free of charge. After that, the local magazine was initially sold in kiosk sales in the city of Passau. Issue 27 (July / August 2009) was distributed free of charge to households in the Tittling market with a circulation of 2,400 . With this edition there were the first two sales outlets in Tittling outside the city of Passau. In November 2009 sales began in the Hutthurm market . In June 2012 the magazine was offered in over 60 sales outlets. Three quarters of the sales outlets are in the city of Passau, 14 sales outlets in the district of Passau. Copies that have not been sold will be displayed in the readers' circle (including catering) in the following month. The Ilztalbahn GmbH has been offering the magazine on its trains as an on-board copy free of charge since 2012.

According to its own information, the Bürgerblick has a sold circulation of 2,400 in the Passau area. This corresponds to around a quarter of the circulation of the local newspaper Passauer Neue Presse sold in this area .
