Citizen Medal of the City of Stuttgart

The citizen's medal of the city of Stuttgart is awarded to people who have rendered outstanding services to Stuttgart or who have achieved outstanding work and were born in Stuttgart or have a special connection with the city.

In total, a maximum of 30 living people should have the citizen medal, which should reflect the importance of this award. The award of the medal is decided by the general assembly of the Stuttgart municipal council in a closed session with a majority of two thirds of the votes of all municipal council members. In order to receive the award, it is not necessary to be a citizen of the city of Stuttgart. The citizen's medal is presented together with a certificate signed by the Stuttgart mayor.

The foundation of the citizen's medal was decided in 1970 by the city council of Stuttgart. In the same year, Max Horkheimer was the first to receive the citizen 's medal.
