The Břehyňský rybník (German Heideteich ) is a reservoir in Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers northeast of Doksy on the II / 270 road between Doksy and Mimoň . The shallow lake lies on boggy terrain and is surrounded by a wide belt of reeds. The dammed water is the Břehyňský potok .
geography
The Břehyňský rybník is located in the Ralská pahorkatina ( Rollberg hill country ) belonging to the Kummergebirge on the cadastre Doksy u Máchova jezera in a swampy lowland between the Bösighügelland and the sandstone hills of the Kummergebirge. To the north rise the Mlýnský vrch ( Mühlberg , 389 m), the Pec ( Petzberg , 451 m) and the Bílý kámen ( Weißenstein , 317 m), in the northeast the Malá Buková ( Little Buchberg , 431 m) and the Velká Buková ( Great Buchberg , 474 m), to the east the Dubová hora ( Eichberg , 321 m) and the Zlatý vrch ( Goldberg , 324 m), to the south the Bösige and the Slatinné vrchy ( Schlattenberg , 429 m) and southwest of the Králův kámen ( Galgenberg , 314 m) m). The only village on the lake is the village of Břehyně on the pond dam , to the east lies the Strážov desert . The entire lake is part of the National Nature Reserve NPR Břehyně-Pecopala .
history
The pond is part of a system of medieval fish ponds along the swampy lowlands along the Robečský potok and its tributaries, which stretched from Doksy to Zahrádky and Holany . The exact time of the creation of the fish pond is unknown. According to some sources, the pond is said to have been built in 1287. Mostly it is assumed, however, that the pond was created after 1366 together with the Máchovo jezero . The pond at the Rohlevka brook was first mentioned in writing in a privilege granted to the city of Hirschberg by Georg von Podiebrad in 1460.
In 1933 and again in 1967 the Břehyňský rybník was placed under protection as a national nature reserve.
Soil investigations were carried out on the frozen bog soil of the drained pond in winter 2009/10. Numerous tree stumps and remains of fallen trees were found. A dendrochronological examination of the finds showed that there was a primeval pine forest with a few spruces at the site of the pond until the 14th century.
description
The Břehyňský rybník is dammed at the southwestern foot of the Mlýnský vrch in Břehyně by a 140 m long earth dam. It has an area of 80.837 hectares, 40 hectares of which are covered with a belt of reeds. Water lilies and yellow pond roses grow on the water surface. The pond is surrounded by extensive swamp meadows and moors, where rare or protected plants thrive. The maximum water depth is two meters. The water drains through the Heidemühler Schlucken ( Břehyňská průrva ) cut through the sandstone subsoil .
After the Máchovo jezero, the pond is the second largest in the pond area around Doksy. It serves as a breeding area and resting place for water birds. The Břehyňský rybník is used as a fishing water.
