The E 3/5 was a passenger train tank locomotive series of the Thunerseebahn (TSB). The locomotives originally ran on the Gürbetalbahn (GTB) and the Erlenbach-Zweisimmen-Bahn (EZB), and later also on the Spiez-Erlenbach-Bahn (SEB), that is, on railways that all later merged with the BLS Lötschbergbahn , and thus are now lines of the current BLS AG .

General

Together with the other Bernese railways, TSB acquired a total of six locomotives of this series to streamline operations. They were used freely among each other. This enabled the pre-tensioning service to be restricted and the turning of the locomotives in the terminal stations avoided.

The machines supplied by the Schweizerische Lokomotivfabrik Winterthur (SLM) cost between 56,200 and 63,000 Swiss francs.

After the TSB was electrified in 1920, the machines were used on the Bern-Neuenburg-Bahn (BN). When steam operation also ended on the BN in 1921/22, the six machines were sold to the BBÖ in Austria .

The BBÖ classified them as row 130 and used them in shunting (shunting service). When in 1928/29 enough powerful shunting locomotives were available due to the commissioning of the 478 series  , the BBÖ withdrew four 130s and sold two copies (130.04 ex GTB 44 and 130.03 ex GTB 43) to the Styrian State Railways (StLB). The StLB retained the designation of the locomotives and only removed them from their inventory in 1957 and 1965.

Technical

This is a two-cylinder steam tender locomotive of the Prairie type , i.e. a movable, leading running axle, three drive axles and a movable, trailing running axle with the wheel arrangement 1'C1 '.

They have a drive wheel diameter of 1320 mm and are approved for 65 km / h. The chassis was built into a 25 mm thick sheet metal inner frame. The front running axle is equipped with a Bissel drawbar frame, while the rear axle is equipped with an Adams radial frame.

The first three locomotives could carry 7 m³ of water and 1.5 tons of coal. For the last three, the ratio was changed to 8 m³ and 0.7 t in favor of the water supply.

The boiler was designed for an operating pressure of 12 bar and carried a steam dome with built-in flat slide valves. The grate area is 1.7 m², the heating area of the fire box is 7.6 m², making the total heating area 113.1 m². A total of 196 boiler pipes with a length of 3800 mm each are installed. The diameter of the cylinder is 440 mm and the piston stroke is 600 mm. The external drive with a central drive axis is controlled by a Walschaert-type controller.

They were equipped with a rear adjusting device, and there were also two brake valves and pressure gauges, while the Hausshälters-Hasler speedometer had to be viewed through a mirror.

The brake system consists of a hand spindle brake and an automatic Westinghouse brake, which acts on all wheels on one side. A manual sand device (gravity) is installed for the drive axles. The suspension springs are arranged under the axles on the coupled axles and above the axles on the running axles. The compensation levers are located between the 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th axis.
