The steam locomotive series kkStB 59 was a freight train - Tender Locomotive series of kkStB .
This series of locomotives was Karl Gölsdorf's first creation . Although its dimensions were similar to the previous series 56 , it had an inner frame, but had an external Heusinger control and a compound engine . It was also the first Austrian series of locomotives with a compound drive. This made it far superior to the triple-coupled freight locomotives that had been used until then. Outwardly, it was positively noticeable that Gölsdorf replaced the saddle-shaped sand container of the 56 series with a sand dome.
From 1893 to 1903 the kkStB added 193 pieces to its inventory. All Austrian locomotive factories were involved in the delivery of the machines. They were used throughout the territory of the monarchy.
After the First World War , representatives of the series came to ČSD as series 324.2 (30 pieces), to PKP as series Th24 and to FS as 127 . 36 copies came to the BBÖ .
After Austria was annexed to the German Reich in 1938, the Reichsbahn classified only four more than 53 7201-04. They were used in shunting in Vienna South , Knittelfeld and St. Michael . Only one machine survived the Second World War , which the ÖBB classified as 353.7204 and retired in 1955.
