The BRM P160 , also known as the BRM P160 , was a Formula 1 racing car , built and used from 1971 to 1974 by the British Formula 1 team British Racing Motors .

The P160 designed by Tony Southgate was the consequent further development of the 153 with rounded lines and a lower monocoque . The front and rear of the car got an improved suspension, but the V12 engine remained unchanged. The car was one of the fastest vehicles of the 1971 season and brought BRM to a second place in the constructors' world championship. Jo Siffert won the Austrian Grand Prix and Peter Gethin the Italian Grand Prix in Monza. BRM was able to build on its old successes once again. The season ended tragically for BRM and Jo Siffert. The Swiss had a fatal accident in a non-world championship race at Brands Hatch (Siffert is the only racing driver who was killed in a BRM).

There were some minor changes for the 1972 season , the car had a tighter monocoque and a few improvements. Now used as the P160B , Jean-Pierre Beltoise won a rainy Monaco Grand Prix , the last Grand Prix victory in BRM's history

In 1973 the vehicles were adapted again. The P160E now had a more deformable chassis and was again one of the fastest cars in the field. Clay Regazzoni , who switched from Ferrari to BRM, and the young Austrian Niki Lauda joined the team to join Jean-Pierre Beltoise . However, the P160E was extremely prone to defects, so despite some strong performances, the great successes were not achieved. Lauda was leading in the chaotic Canadian Grand Prix , but he couldn't win either. In the end, sixth place remained in the constructors' championship.

After the P180 was a complete bad design , the team also contested the 1974 season with the P160E. The cars were now four years old and inferior to the competition. Only in 1975 did a new BRM come with the 201 , which replaced the last successful construction of the British team.
