Ba is a city in Fiji on the island of Viti Levu . It is the capital of the Ba Province , the most populous and second largest of the fourteen Fiji provinces in terms of area.

The city is 37 kilometers from Lautoka and 62 kilometers from Nadi . It has an area of around 327 square kilometers. It was built at the mouth of the Ba River, from which it takes its name. In 2007 the city had 18,526 inhabitants. For a long time Ba was known for its single-lane bridge and the resulting traffic problems. This old bridge was destroyed by the floods in the 1990s. After the accident, a bypass, King's Road , was built. Meanwhile, another bridge was built, this time as a two-lane bridge.

Ba is an agricultural center that is predominantly inhabited by Indo-Fijians . The city is a magnet for tourists. Sugar cane has long been the backbone of the local economy, but many sugar mills have closed in the past fifteen years. Ba was registered as a city in 1939 and is governed by a 15-member city council, who elect the mayor from among its ranks. In the last municipal elections in 2002, 14 of the 15 seats were occupied by the National Federation Party. Another seat went to an independent candidate. The incumbent mayor is Praveen Bala .

In the city is Govind Park , a sports stadium.
