Bactridines are a group of toxins in the venom of the thick-tailed scorpion Tityus discrepans .

properties

Bactridines comprise six peptides . They bind to voltage-gated sodium channels , unusually those of both bacteria and eukaryotes . An antibacterial effect is achieved in bacteria, while the bactridines in eukaryotes serve to poison the prey and to ward off predators. In humans, bactridines produce edema in the lungs .

Bactridine are one of the longer scorpion toxins with four disulfide bridges . They (Bactridine 1-6) have the molecular weights 6916, 7362, 7226, 7011, 7101 and 7173 Da . There is an antitoxin , which consists of polyclonal antibodies against the Bactridine.
