Blenhorst is a district of the municipality of Balge in the Nienburg / Weser district in Lower Saxony .

Blenhorst has about 320 inhabitants (103 houses) and is about halfway between Hanover (65 km) and Bremen (55 km) near Nienburg / Weser at an average height of 36 m above sea level . Locally, the place is in the triangle between the districts of Buchhorst , Buchholz and Dolldorf . The Blenhorster Bach flows through Blenhorst .
history
The place was founded as a health resort in 1842 and was a health resort until the end of 2010. In an advertising brochure from the 1930s, it was written about the spa at that time: "Sulfur spring, brine spring and the moor enriched with sulfur water are the natural remedies of Blenhorst. It is probably the smallest mud bath in Germany . The thick moor is obtained on site and with brine spring water The slow heat influence on the body is 7 times higher than that of an aqueous mud bath.
Legend has it that in 1840 a shepherd discovered the salty and sulfur-smelling springs. He bathed in it several times and in autumn his niggles were gone. The district physician at that time determined that it was medicinal water and provided the first bathing facilities.
On March 1, 1974, the communities of Balge, Blenhorst, Bötenberg , Buchhorst, Holzbalge , Mehlbergen and Sebbenhausen were merged into a new community. This was named Blenhorst . On January 23, 1976, her name was officially changed to Balge .
Culture and sights
- A Blenhorster mill was first mentioned in 1550. The Blenhorster saw and grinding mill on Blenhorster Bach, built in 1769, has two water wheels, one overshot and one undershot. Today it is fully functional again as a grain and sawmill and there is a unique opportunity in northern Germany to get married in it.
- The place has a Kneipp basin for treading water within the natural spa park.
