Music style and lyrics
The band played a mixture of hardcore punk and reggae and suddenly understood how to switch between very fast hardcore punk songs and slow reggae pieces. The texts are often incomprehensible due to the poor recording quality and the high speed. The songs are usually very short and almost never exceed the two-minute mark. The reggae pieces are often about God, who, as is common with the Rastafari and reggae, is called Jah .
Reviews
Allmusic's Greg Prato wrote that this album was arguably the holy grail of hardcore punk and especially praised the change between slow reggae songs and fast hardcore punk pieces. He awarded four and a half out of five points. Allmusic's Steven McDonald noted the poor quality recording of Attitude - The Roir Sessions , but this would help improve the atmosphere as it is a punk band after all. The album is not for everyone, but an important moment in music history. He also awarded four and a half points. Robert Müller from Metal Hammer was not impressed by the mixture of hardcore punk and reggae. This “reggae swamp” will probably never open up to him and was annoyed by the “preaching behavior” in the reggae pieces about Jah. The album is "certainly a document of the importance of the Bad Brains for the development of hardcore in the 1980s, but whether you need it because of the flood of good new hardcore releases is an open question". Müller gave no rating. Rolling Stone magazine chose the album at number 19 on its 2016 list of 40 Greatest Punk Albums of All Time .
