The railway depot Lutherstadt Wittenberg (often abbreviated as Bw Wittenberg ) is a former railway depot in the Labetz district of Lutherstadt Wittenberg .

history

The Berlin-Anhaltische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (BAE) built a first system in Wittenberg in 1841 in connection with the commissioning of the Anhalter Bahn . This consisted of a two-pronged square lokschuppen and a reversing triangle to turn the locomotives. The system was located at what was then the Wittenberg train station .

With the relocation of the station to its current location , BAE built a new locomotive shed there. This was replaced in 1877 by a five-track roundhouse with a 16-meter turntable . From 1882 this train station belonged to the Royal Railway Directorate in Erfurt . The Prussian State Railways expanded the engine shed to 14 tracks by 1895 and built a social and administrative building. From April 1, 1895, the Wittenberg machine station was under the control of the Royal Railway Directorate in Halle and on April 1, 1903, it was upgraded to a workshop.

At the beginning of the 1920s, the facilities had to be expanded. Due to the lack of space at the previous location, a new part of the company was built in what was then Labetz. First, a small, four-track roundhouse and a 23-meter turntable were built. An extensive expansion took place from 1938. A roundhouse with 22 tracks, a 34 meter high water tower and a large social and administrative building were built. In 1942 the new Wittenberg depot went into operation. In 1961 a coal bunker was built.

In 1994, the depot into a depot has been transformed, from 1998 it was a work site of the DB Regio . The use of the locomotive ended in 2000.

Today the area is managed by the “Förderverein Berlin - Anhaltische Eisenbahn e. V. "used. The association's vehicles are also parked here.
