The Estació del Arc de Triomf ('Arc de Triomf Station') is a double-track underground regional train station - actually a stop - in the Spanish metropolis of Barcelona . It is mainly served by Rodalies Barcelona trains. It was built as an underground part of what was then Estació del Nord ('North Station'). It is located at the triumphal arch of the same name under Avinguda de Vilanovo in the Eixample .

history

Estació del Nord

In 1861, a terminus station was built in the Eixample district , where the railway line from Saragossa found its terminus. The station was named Estació del Nord . In 1929 the Estació de França was opened a little further to the south , which was connected to the north station. Said connecting tracks were only removed in 1992 as part of a major renovation on the occasion of the Olympic Games.

From the underground station of the Estació del Nord to the Arc de Triomf station

In 1931 the two-track underground station was finally built, today's Arc de Triomf station . The underground station followed a year later. The reason for the underground station was that the Ferrocarrils del Norte operated their railway line from Saragossa, wanted to extend their line to the center of Barcelona under the Plaça de Catalunya , where an underground station is still located today . At the end of the 1960s, as part of the construction work on the new Barcelona-Sants main station , the tube called the Meridiana Tunnel was extended to L'Hospitalet de Llobregat . In 1972 the above-ground part of the station was closed, and the underground part was reorganized as the Estació del Arc de Triomf. A bus station that still exists today was set up in the above-ground part.

traffic

railroad

The station is on one of the two tunnels that leave Sants eastwards and cross under the city center. Mainly trains from the Costa Brava (via Calella ) and from the north of Catalonia run through the tunnel with the Arc de Triomf . In this tunnel, the RENFE forms a four-lane route with the Barcelona Metro between Arc de Triomf and Plaça Catalunya . It is the only line in Barcelona that has both metro and rail trains.

Rodalies Barcelona

The Rodalies Barcelona serve Arc de Triomf with the lines R1 (Maçanet-Massanes-Molins de Rei), R3 (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat-Vic), R4 (Sant Vincenç de Calders-Manresa) and R7 (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat- Martorell).

Other regional traffic

The RENFE serves the station with the line Ca4b of Catalunya Express , which between L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Lleida leads -Pirineus and Sants or Plaça de Catalunya controls.

Subway

The Barcelona Metro serves the Arc de Triomf train station with a metro station of the same name, where the L1 line stops.
