The Bickenbach (Bergstr) station (until 1932 Bickenbach (Hess) station ) is the only station in the municipality of Bickenbach in Hesse . It belongs to station category 5 and is located in the RMV tariff area .

history

The platform systems of the station (2012, before the platform renewal)

In 1846 the Main-Neckar Railway , which connects Frankfurt and Heidelberg central stations , was opened. Although only a few stops were planned at the beginning, a train station was built in 1848 for the town, which then had only about 950 inhabitants. The design of the station is said to come from Darmstadt's city architect Georg Moller .

In December 1894, the construction of a branch line from Bickenbach to the neighboring community of Seeheim-Jugenheim began. In July 1895 the Bickenbach – Seeheim railway was completed and opened on July 6, 1895.

On May 22nd, 1932 - at the beginning of the summer timetable - the station was renamed from Bickenbach (Hess) to Bickenbach (Bergstrasse) .

During the Second World War , the station was repeatedly targeted by air raids.

On December 31, 1955, passenger traffic on the Bickenbach – Seeheim line was discontinued. Freight traffic followed in July 1960. In March 1961, the line was finally dismantled.

The station building is no longer owned by Bahn AG or its subsidiaries.

During the modernization in 2016/2017, the central platform on tracks 2 and 3 was demolished and replaced by a new outer platform on track 3. This means that the middle of the three tracks is only used for through traffic. The house platform was also demolished and rebuilt a few meters further north. Today both platforms are 210 meters long and 76 centimeters high.

Infrastructure

Track systems

The station has been barrier-free since 2017 . It has two platform tracks, each with an outside platform. The platforms are connected to one another via a pedestrian underpass south of the station.

Track 1 is used for regional traffic in the direction of Frankfurt and as a through track for long-distance and freight traffic.

Today, track 2 no longer has a platform and serves as a through track for long-distance and freight traffic.

Track 3 is used for regional traffic in the direction of Mannheim / Heidelberg.

The continuous main tracks in the station area are largely passable at 150 km / h, a drop in speed compared to the 160 km / h permitted on both sides. Track 3 can be driven at 60 km / h.

Station forecourt

On the station forecourt there is a park + ride car park and a bus stop with connections to the surrounding towns.

future

As part of the 2020 Rhine-Neckar cycle, the medium-term aim is to extend the new RheinNeckar S-Bahn line to Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof, which is planned to reach Bensheim . However, the opening of the first section is not expected until 2018 at the earliest.

Others

Immediately to the north of the station is a railway system with two passing points and three sidings . The latter are part of the connection between the Bundeswehr depot in Pfungstadt and the Main-Neckar Railway.

At Bickenbach station, the slower regional trains are overtaken during the traffic times of InterCity lines 26 and 62, which have to use one of the passing points.
