Former train station in Darscheid / Eifel

The Darscheid station is a listed building in the local community Darscheid ( Verbandsgemeinde Daun ) in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Reception building

The station building is at the northern end of Bahnhofstrasse in Darscheid and at the same time also at the northern edge of the local development. It was probably built in 1906 as a type construction. It consists of a two and a half storeys, approximately symmetrical structure with the platform towards traufständigem saddle roof . The central wing with a double-sided dwarf protrudes a little from the building, which is now painted beige and yellow. Today there is a disabled facility in the former station building.

Today's operation

From a railway technology point of view, the station is a stop on the single-track and non- electrified Eifelquerbahn , which was opened in this section in 1895 and closed to passenger traffic in 1991 and runs from Andernach on the left Rhine route via Mayen and Daun to Gerolstein on the Eifelbahn . Since 2000, on summer weekends , there has been tourist traffic on the railway line operated by the Vulkan-Eifel-Bahn (VEB) every two hours with rail buses and occasional steam trains .

Today's train station has a through track running along the house platform without switches or other railway systems.
