The Derschlag station was an important station for local industry in Gummersbach in the Derschlag district . Until the line to Bergneustadt was continued, it was the terminus of the Siegburg – Olpe line .

It was particularly important as a transhipment point for wool , since the Oberbergische Kreis was an important textile industry location . Passenger traffic was carried out here until 1979 and freight traffic until 1994.

The station building is a listed building , most of the tracks were preserved until the beginning of 2013. On February 28, 2013, however, the dismantling of the track system began. In mid-March, apart from a piece west of the train station to the Alpestrasse level crossing, there were no more tracks. These last tracks have also been removed in the meantime.

Until the 1950s there was a second train station on the site of the current bus station, which was, however, a freight station of the Gummersbacher Kleinbahnen .

history

The station building was previously in Recklinghausen Süd . However, there is also a different indication of the origin of the reception building. A plan for the train station from 1885 said: "to move from (Gelsenkirchen-) Horst to Derschlag".

At the place of origin it had become too small and was rebuilt in Derschlag. It is a half-timbered house and was therefore typical of the architectural style of the time it was built on site, which is also known as Bergisches Historismus or Heimatstil . However, half-timbering was rarely used for railway buildings.

Until 1896, Derschlag was the terminus of a terminal station. The station always had a very unusual track layout. Most of the tracks pointed into the village, but the exit track to Bergneustadt did not lead straight ahead as usual. Instead, it took a completely different route in an arc to the south out of the station area. This is due to the fact that the further construction in the direction of Bergneustadt was initially planned parallel to Südstraße through the village, but due to the development, it was then continued further south along the slope. This turned out to be beneficial when the route between Niederseßmar and Derschlag was completely relocated to the slope in 1914. The old track went to the Gummersbacher Kleinbahnen . A railroad crossing was a railway rarity that was still preserved until February 2013 .

From 1918, Derschlag was also the transfer station for the small railways, at that time the track systems were significantly more extensive up to the 1950s than in the previous years of operation. With the closure of the small railways, tracks were removed for the first time.

In 1979 passenger traffic was stopped on the route between Dieringhausen and Olpe. From 1980 the station was unmanned.

After the shutdown of passenger traffic, some special trains still ran. In 1993 one of these trains of the railway museum in Dieringhausen derailed here , one of the through tracks was damaged and no longer repaired, this was still visible until the tracks were dismantled in 2013.

After that, the last freight trains ran on the second track until this traffic between Niederseßmar and Bergneustadt also ended in 1994 .

Immediate environment and companies on the site

The factory building that is now the AS Création wallpaper factory originally belonged to the Albert Reusch textile factory. It used to be brick-colored, today it was white. Later, a distribution warehouse of the Quelle / Fürth mail order company was located here, which became the "Delta" company at the end of the 1960s and moved to an area between Oberderschlag and Bergneustadt, where it got its own siding.

However, the companies based here at the station never had a siding. The goods for the companies were delivered directly to the train station and forwarded on trolleys from the loading street on Südstraße to the factory.

The wallpaper factory (formerly P&S, now AS) never received or sent goods via the railways.

The Derschlager Post Office had a building on the station premises where some telegraph poles were stored.

Until the 1950s, there was a large park in the western part of the station with a villa belonging to the entrepreneurial family.

Status

The station building is a listed building. For this purpose, two different dates are given in the monument register: January 7, 1986 and September 1, 1986. Up to March 2013 there were still a few tracks. The rest of the railway inventory was removed beforehand. The site is to be converted for the expansion of the AS Création company .

The local Raiffeisen cooperative has been housed in the reception building for many years .
